What about biology makes people from other disciplines assume they can pick up PhD-level biology as a hobby?

Like, with one notable jackass exception, you never see career biologists assuming they’ve figured out all the open questions in AI research after a few days of their own thought experiments, but the reverse happens ALL THE TIME

I just can’t imagine being like “wow I’ve solved the spread of covid for large in-person gatherings that require travel!” As if people who devote their lives to this work wouldn’t have thought of that already and dismissed it for how stupid it is? How low is your opinion of us?
