The world has already entered a 2nd cold war, but few realise this because polarisation within and between Western democracies has blinded us to the growing threat from authoritarian states who are spreading their backward political ideas across the globe.

To fight this we must:
realise that our domestic divisions are being exacerbated by real enemies who want us weakened, and try to overcome them.
build closer cooperation between ALL countries that share our values of respect for life, liberty and the rule of law.

In Britain, we must stop bickering about whether it's better to be a part of/close to the EU, USA, #EFTA, #CANZUK or the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
We should seek to be as close as we can to all and unite as much we can under one common banner around our shared values.

Japan should join 5 Eyes and we must strengthen NATO.
We must be ready to stand up and support the newer and would be democracies on the borders of Russia and China - because if we don't they will be lost into the realm of influence of their more draconian neighbours.

But we must also not fall into the fallacy of blaming entire countries and their populations for the malice of the authoritarian governments that see themselves as masters over their people and their people as nothing more than servants to the state.

Instead we should strive to be a beacon of light and hope to all peoples who are oppressed by dictators.
The West must reclaim its role as a role model for others to aspire to. We must show leadership by example and readiness for action, not just by admonition.

We must also open our eyes and see that this new #ColdWarMk2 is being played out across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, where countries are being destabilised with the deliberate goal to cause chaos, so that authoritarians and their overseas allies can sweep in as saviours.

If we do nothing, we all pay the price. State failures in the Sahel will bring more refugess onto our shores and we will grow weaker and more divided as we struggle to cope with divisions over this and many other problems that pale in significance to the real threat.
