LA playing small against Houston would be a bad idea imo. Just a couple reasons top of mind for why:
- Rotations easier
- OReb dominance
- Vertical threats
- Post up mismatches
- Rim protection
- Because of Harden’s tendencies in iso against 2 bigs on-court compared to 1

If AD is the only shot-blocker out there, Houston can stick him strong-side corner and negate all he does on defense.
Then HOU can switch everything LA does to negate P&R and let LA’s poor switch offense turn this into an iso battle.
And we see more JR/Dion/Rondo going small.

Houston will get Harden isolated against whoever he wants. They will. Idc how stubborn you are in P&R to not switch. They’ve shown they can get the mismatches.
But McGee on Harden with a second big weak side to deter drives is less scary to me after going through film.

If LA attacked switches better & wasn’t as dominant on the offensive glass I could see more of an argument to go small.
But HOU has a top post D playing small all year for a reason, is sound switching on D, LA has been bad attacking switches all year, & LA dominates OREBs

Going small plays into LA’s weaknesses with streaky shooting and poor attacking of switches (which is all they’ll see) and exposes point of attack defense while negating rim protection.
If Harden doesn’t drive HOU doesn’t get open 3s, and he drives far less w/2 Bigs on defense

And let me say that I’ve spent since Tuesday scouting for this and have a lot more specifics for defensive tactics for going big I’ll break down in my next video outlining why it’s the way to go and fits HOU’s tendencies, LA’s personnel, and the next potential adjustments best.
