1. A statue is NOT history.

2. By virtue of being in a public place, a statue requires consent.

3. Why keep something that causes pain?

4. Why honour someone who deliberately committed mass murder? A person who inflicted starvation to achieve his ends?
5. MacDonald's crimes were crimes in his time. They were condemned in his time.

They are eternal crimes.

6. MacDonald was the most corrupt person to ever be Prime Minister. He was chased out of office and resigned in disgrace.

7. Being the first is not a virtue in itself.
8. *We get to choose who we honour and who we celebrate.*

We shouldn't celebrate a villain. We should condemn him as an evil man who literally orchestrated and designed systemic racism that kills people today.

There is old blood on his hands. There is fresh blood on his hands.
9. We must accept that the story of a lovable drunk told to us as children was a lie. I'm sorry some people liked that fantasy.

But it's time to grow up. And tell the truth.

10. The BNA Act wasn't exactly the stuff of poetry. It was a business contract between profiteers.
We owe nothing to John MacDonald.

Anything good about Canada was achieved despite him.

Those things we have reason to be proud of, like the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, is produced by us today. It lives and breathes because of the people we are, not what MacDonald did.
