Right there’s so much love for the Chibnall/Whittaker era but it always gets drowned out by the NMDs so I’m going to do a thread of things I love from the current era of Dr Who.
I’m going to start with my very favourite thing from the current era of Who. Sacha Dhawan as the Master is the same level of casting perfection as Peter Capaldi becoming Dr Who was. I love this Master, he’s my favourite regeneration of the character
Jodie Whittaker as the Thirteenth Doctor. Role model for al the kids! Marvellous advocate for the show, plus she mocks NMDs and frankly you love to see it. Her Doctor has developed in such an interesting way and I’m so excited to see where the Doctor is heading next
Jo Martin as Dr Who! Oh god she’s had such a short time in the role so far but she’s utterly gripping in the role. The speculation where she fits is so fun to me, personally I believe she’s between the Second and Third Doctors. I can’t wait to find out more about her
The most unique refreshing way to make a Cyberman threat different & gripping in the form of Ashad, the Lone Cyberman. The design is beautiful. The characterisation is MAD! A faulty half converted Cybermen so demanded that they still want to create Cybermen even with his emotions
It Takes You Away is just a modern classic. It’s really Graham’s story at the end of the day where he gets closure on Grace and Ryan finally admits that Graham is as good as a real grandad to him. This is also the story where I knew who the Thirteenth Doctor was fully
Whittaker era historicals are a huge success in my opinion. They are a true strong point of this era from Rosa Parks to Nikola Tesla to Mary & Percy Shelly. This era knows how to do a historical really well
Most of of you will HATE this one but the Timeless Child story arc is a refreshing story arc that I am 100% onboard for. It can go anywhere from here and mean so much. Don’t you understand how one could go wild with creativity over this plot device?? It’s brilliant
The Cyber Master are very pretty and cool looking. I like the implication that this could lead to some sort of civil war between surviving Time Lords and the Doctor vs the Master and Cyber Masters
Chibnall era Gallifrey, while destroyed, looks utterly beautiful. There’s a clear inspiration from The Deadly Assassin’s Gallifreyan architecture and it just looks stunning. I’m all here for it
Chibbers the madman brought back Contact and I love that!!!
AND WE FINALLY SAW THE MASTER’S TARDIS IN NEW WHO YES LADS
The Tissue Compression Eliminator made a snazzy comeback too who’d have thought
Finally, where you likely admit it or not, this era honours the past of Dr Who just as much as the Moffat, RTD and basically every era after Hartnell’s honoured what came before it
