Imagine you were born left-handed, but you were raised to think you're right-handed.

Maybe you don't need to imagine; maybe this is actually what happened to you.

Imagine that you were forced to use your right hand for everything, despite being a lefty, and maybe you didn't even know you were a lefty, because you always used your right hand. Why would it even occur to you to try your left hand, if you just always use your right?
3/

Again, maybe you don't need to imagine; maybe this is actually what happened to you.
4/

Now imagine that at some point in your life, you realize you're actually left-handed, and you start using your left hand and realize, "wow, this is SO much easier! WHY have I not been doing this my whole life?"
5/

And imagine you mention this to your friends, and they start to ask you questions like:

- "When did you decide to be left-handed?"
- "When did you become left-handed?"
- "Why don't you like being right-handed?"
6/

And imagine they introduce you to their friends, saying:

- "[name] used to be right-handed, but now they're left-handed!"

It doesn't work that way, right?
7/

You never *became* left-handed, and you certainly never *chose* to be left-handed....

You were, quite simply, *always* left-handed, even when you wrote with your right hand.

It's just that nobody realized it before.
8/

Everyone thought you were right-handed, because they only ever saw you write with your right hand. But actually, they were all wrong - you're left-handed, and always have been, despite being forced to write with your right.
9/

Can you imagine this?

(Maybe it's even what happened to you?)

Now replace the word "right-handed" with "boy," and replace the word "left-handed" with "girl," and you'll understand my gender transition a bit better.
10/

I have always been a girl. It's just that nobody ever knew it, because I was raised to be a boy, and I didn't seriously question that until I was an adult.

But I have always been a girl. And now I'm actually living it.
11/

I didn't choose to be a girl.

I wasn't a boy until I became a girl.

I didn't just wake up one morning and think, "hey, I think I'll change my gender today!"

I was always a girl, but only now does everyone know it.

Just like a lefty who was forced to use their right-hand, until they decided to embrace being a lefty.
