Look, everybody in education is approaching this year with some trepidation and worry. The unknowns are big and the “how to do it” is pretty difficult to grasp. There’s one thing we can all do, & it’s the most important thing: show up for the kids & show up for each other.
Be present. Listen. Create a space for relationships. Understand that we’re all going to make mistakes but they can be a pathway to growth if we let them.
Every year, I reflect on a thing @ClintSmithIII said once in a tweet. “The world was build and thus can be rebuilt into something better.” Let’s create classrooms where we give students the freedom to create something new.
2020 has been a lot. But one thing is abundantly clear, we need a generation willing to build something that has never been before. Because what we’ve got? It’s not working. May our classes be an invitation to that kind of imagination.
