Open this thread if you want to know how neopronouns work!

Especially if you're neurodivergemt and need more detail than most ppl 😉

Pronouns (like she, I, me, they) take the place of a name in a sentence. They are used to save time by not repeating a person's name.

Most pronouns come in multiple different versions depending on what part of the sentence they are.
"he" is "he" when you say "he goes to the shops" because the person is doing something

it turns into "him" when something is happening *to* the person: "I give him a sandwich" or "I kiss him".

when the person has something, like a photo, it becomes "his photo"
"his" can also be used on its own to mean "the thing he has". For example, "that photo is his".

"her" works a bit different but it still changes in predictable ways:
"she likes me"
"I kiss her"
"I see her flower"
"That flower is hers"
A neopronoun is a new (neo) pronoun. A pronoun that was made up recently. All pronouns were made up at some point in history.

If someone says "I use fae/faer pronouns", it gives you an idea of how to use the pronouns in place of their name. It is okay to ask for examples though.
When the person is doing the action, it is "fae goes to school".

When the person is having the action done to them, it is "I remind faer to go to school"

When the person has something, it is "that is faer lunch"
If the person has something and the name of the thing isn't next to the pronoun, it becomes, "That lunch is faers"

If you compare fae/faer with she/her, you will see they both change in the same predictable way.

Not all neopronouns follow this pattern, but-
-they will all follow some kind of predictable pattern.

If someone asks you to use neopronouns, they will understand that there is a learning curve, especially if they aren't in your first language.

The main thing to do is try. Fumbly neopronoun use is better than just-
-ignoring someone's pronouns and calling them "he" or "she" based on your own judgement of their gender.

If you're stuck, ask the person to give example sentences!
http://pronoun.is  is also a useful site if you want auto-generated examples!
It will feel "wrong" at first when you use neopronouns for someone else. That is normal.

Hold on to that feeling because that is your language intuition at work. It's like how speaking your first words in a foreign language feels silly.

It is the feeling of learning.
Once you have said/heard neopronouns a few dozen times they will start to feel like normal words. This is how all new words are born.
