Who is organizing the churches (that many of us stopped attending) to be the “safer” place where we can organize b/c our phones are tapped & social media organizers finally realize we can’t organize for Black liberation in broad daylight? Who is organizing the mutual aid drives?
How are we preparing for the complete collapse of civil rights (such as they are)? When violent racism is supported by the courts, your local police precinct & armed militias, where are you moving to? When they forcibly re-segregate & bring back sundown towns, where we going?
What’s the plan for when racist doctors refuse to perform your surgery, deliver your baby or admit your Black body to the hospital & the local racist judge agrees & you’re forced out by the local militia? Who courts our votes then?
Is one of the Black leaders advising you to sit out this election building up your local hospital infrastructure? Did they build a pipeline of Black medical professionals in your area to handle what happens when Black folks are no longer allowed to use the local hospitals again?
What’s the plan for when our kids are kicked out of the local schools because of the return to ordinances that permit racial screening? Is there an underground Safe Black Schools movement? Because we’re going to need one once your local 45 supporting school board gets going.
How are we preparing for the explicit theft of Black homes & property? The last time we were here, THOUSANDS of Black folks were kicked off their land as they fled with nothing but the clothes on their backs. What’s the plan for that?
Which Black celeb telling you not to vote is prepared to let recently displaced Black refugees stay in their mansions? How long can we stay? Will they have food & supplies?
There’s a quote I love, I think it’s by Marcus Garvey: “What Africans have done, Africans can do.” I live it b/c it speaks to our ability to be powerful society builders who literally invent math, science & language. But...there’s a counter to this quote that always scared me...
Because if that quote is true - it’s not just true for us. It’s also true for Them. And if “what They have done, They can do” then we are sitting ducks if 45 gets another term. They’re literally practicing right now while politically ill-informed Black “leaders” play word games.
