Thread: Addendum on mourning the dead amongst non-Muslims

What is mourning?
This is simply the expression of sorrow over someone's death.

Mourning is different from asking for forgiveness and mercy for the deceased.
So rightfully so, the Prophet SAW expressed sorrow over the death of his uncle Abu Talib of course because of how generous and accommodating he was to the cause of Islam but he was prohibited from asking for forgiveness for him.
He (SAW) also wept profusely over the grave of his mum (Sahih Muslim 976) but Allaah prohibited him from seeking for forgiveness for her. Also check al-Irwa' al-Ghaleel (3/225).
This also comes under the general purview of showing compassion to fellow humans especially when such Non-Muslim was known for his kindness, generosity and good character.
In Christianity, salvation is only through accepting Christ as the savior which means of a Muslim dies without accepting this doctrine, he is going to Hell. This is through in most major religions.
John 3: 16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
It is unfortunate that we are not trying to convince the non-Muslims on this issue, it is the Muslims that are having issue with this fundamentally established aspect of the Deen.
Ironically, the fitrah (natural disposition) of every human kicks in when it is not completely corrupted. So, the Muslims that find it difficult to accept that their Non-Muslim celebrities who die disbelieving in Allaah will not attain salvation
Striving to push the narrative that you don't know whether he died as a believer...
You can visit the family of the deceased and console them.
You can pray for the living among them as a consolation. Ask Allaah to guide those left behind. And if financially capable, support them with a token as they are in the time of need.
Remind them of the good character of the deceased and move on.
Everything about the life of a believer is important because he is to serve as a good example to others. We have a daunting responsibility to live the life of a Muslim to the best of our abilities. Please, Muslims take this seriously.
Open up doors and avenues for people to learn more and more. Encourage people to educate themselves on issues they have no knowledge of. Beware of reacting to provocations, be a good example and always respond with intelligence and love. Knowledge liberates. Please learn!
As humans we are social beings, we coexist with others. We develop different relationships in the process. However, as Muslims we must always remember that our relationship with Allaah is the most important of all. No any other relationship consideration must be put above that.
We should strive and even ask Allaah to give us the strength and the wisdom to rise above other relationships when it comes to the truth and standing for it. We are weak so we need Allaah's assistance to be able to put our love for Him above any other love.
