Had a bit of time on my hands, so I decided to make a thread of our GK targets, including Mendy - purely from a statistical point of view.
Used graphs and stuff as well, likes and RTs are very much appreciated.
For this thread, I've considered Kepa, Mendy, Pope and Oblak, while also including Rajkovic (cos I love him) and Ederson (as he's a modern GK). Onana links have gone bust as well, hence I haven't included him.
The first graph shows the save % and the cross collection % of our candidates.
While Oblak has great save % (77.1), he only collects 5.5% of crosses into the box.
Pope has a slightly lower save % (71.1), but collects 14.3% of crosses into the box, which is immense.

Edouard Mendy has a good save percentage of 78.4%, and also collects a decent % of crosses into the box with 10.2%. So far so good
Kepa

Kepa

Save percentage might not always be an appropriate measure to test a gk's shot stopping, but Mendy also outperforms his expects stats by +1.7 (PSxG - GA). In the previous season, this figure stood at +4.6.
Also has 0 errors leading to goals.
Hence, he is a good shot stopper

Moving on to the passing attributes which is a requirement of a modern GK, here is graph showing passes per 90 and completion %
Ederson is an absolute monster, and no surprises there. Kepa is also pretty good with his feet. Oblak and Pope, not so much

Once again, Mendy holds a decent position in this regard, averaging 33 passes per game and completing 73.9% of those
However, most of these are long or medium passes, and he's made just 2 short passes over the last three seasons, completing none of them. Playing out the back

All in all, its clear that Lampard wants a traditional shot stopper who prevents supply into the box (he's 197 cm
)
Mendy fits that role and despite being 28, could offer us a good 4-5 years of top level football.
The reported €20m bid could be a low risk high reward deal.

Thought I'd add this to the thread as well, similarities between Mendy and Cech (when we signed him).

That brings us to the end of the thread. Hopefully it helped you understand our *reported* target Edouard Mendy.
