there's a phenomenon known as "scarcity principle" which causes people to place higher value on things/people they perceive as being rare and placing a lesser value on things that are more abundant. the economy makes use of this principle, hence the "limited edition" concept !!

a specific phenomenon known as "identifiable victim effect" causes people to feel greater empathy towards a specific individual under hardship, as opposed to a large group under the same hardship. it also helps people relate to each other, in less severe circumstances !!
