I really think psychology & particularly clinical psychology could be enriched by having critical theory, this would help avoid what I am going to start naive racism not accidental naive racism. You need to teach students to think and allow them to think.
Most of what I use in my writing are not new arguments at all. But if you have not got the tools to think, it is very difficult to think. And I did not obtain these tools from within psychology. This is the reality, I was not taught to think within psychology...
In fact I was actively discouraged from thinking. I have learnt to think outside psychology then applied my thinking to psychology.
But if you have not got that appetite to think and openness to seek knowledge outside of psychology when appropriate, you will forever reproduce the status-quo. Without being aware that is what you are doing. For most at least.
Increasingly get invites from clinical psychology teaching departments for lectures, so hopeful... I have refused all of them as the fee offered cannot sustain Race Reflections. And I can’t justify doing concessions for higher education institutions.
Further always hesitant to do one hit wonder lectures. There are ethical questions to consider. But we’re thinking really hard about partnerships & clinical placements in the future, there’s some interest. Let’s see.
