The progressive sections of the society—with all noble intentions—can keep beating drums of truth or keep filling buckets with tears of compassion, but what will remain unshaken in the regime’s mass support is the foundation of it: the nakedness of the rot in the Indian society.

One must also humbly recognise that this rot is more channelised and deliberate, than it is accidental and exploited. That it is a conscious pandemic of the minds. That governance, since a long time, has had little to do with blind allegiance towards the regime.

The emperor can come on TV tomorrow and say that the money collected was never for a relief fund, but to buy Korean mushrooms for his dinner. And its support base will cheer it. In fact, they will sell their assets to give more money.

No amount of truth will dent the lies because the belief system of the lies is elsewhere—and it often remains unaddressed as merely a parallel track.

Drums of truth will keep falling flat on ears and tears of compassion will keep getting mocked...

...until the progressive approach takes a sharp tonal shift and directs itself more towards the radicalisation of the Indian society than merely flawed governance. Both in discourse, and in actions.

To give a simple example: Stand not against a discriminatory law, but stand with the people who the law is discriminating against.

Read that sentence above again.

The former will want a governance fix. The latter will demand a society’s attitudinal change.

Since demonetisation, it is obvious that flawed governance matters only to progressives but not to this regime’s supporters. For it engages with one’s rationality, and not one’s corrupt moral compass or a violent system of faith.

To cut the long story short: One needs to address the Radicalisation of Indian Society as a humanitarian crisis. And begin attacking it from outside, and within.

Or one can keep bleating merely on the failings in governance for two more decades, and we’d remain exactly where we are.

Which is, a totalitarian regime with mass public support.
