So.... Salary cap.

I understand all the arguments put forward against this.

But my view is this and it will not change.

There needs to be a control at ALL levels of football to protect clubs from owners that get in too deep, leaving the clubs underwater and losing interest.
For me it’s about sustainability and even an idiot can see that Financial Fair Play and SCMP were no good.

Clubs wasting time and money cheating the system, on lawyers and accountants, using sponsorship deals that raise an eyebrow etc.

I’d replace the lot with a single number..
...cap. Each month all clubs would forward in full their full wage details in the same format they are forwarded to HMRC. Anyone breaking the upper limit would be deducted points. There would be no right to appeal (if I was running the show I’d scrap the independent panel)
Now then.

I don’t care particularly what level it’s set at.

But.

I haven’t a clue what our budget should be for this season. I haven’t a clue what our income will be. So I can’t say what level it should be set at, other than if there is a control to be used, it should be at..
..the lower end of the scale until this covid 19 sorts itself out.

But the level should be flexible and raised as things clear up.

I believe no club should be allowed to go under as we’ve seen with monotonous regularity of late, caused by Shite rules and controls.
I believe that some clubs should make a decent profit, instead of this attitude many have that all cash should be spent.

They should be sensible business propositions, not businesses banks wouldn’t touch with a bargepole.

I ask all supporters to remember this..
..at all times.

You may well have sensible owners running great clubs like @Pompey now.

But all clubs are just one bad owner away from disaster.

With proper regulatory controls the damage owners can do to clubs will be limited thereby making it easier to attract new owners.
Any losses would have to be funded in full in the season they’re made, NOT WITH LOANS.

Then there would be no need for @DCMS to get involved.

A clubs maximum deficit would be the one year gap between income and expenditure.

Clubs making big profits because of the cap could..
...reduce ticket prices, merchandise prices, pie and a pint prices.

Finally, the idea that owners can make perpetual losses of £13m a year in the championship REPELS THE MIND.

Get that capped too.

The @EFL as a collection of 72 clubs should not be losing HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS.
Good morning BTW.
