PSA -> We'll sidestep the "DA is NOT a good #SEO metric" debate for a sec to ask you - have you seen your DA drop suddenly this month? If so, we recommend looking at whether signal value you were receiving from @Pinterest has changed.
If you're a blogger and SEO is not your jam, keep it simple. Look for whether the mentions and pins you were getting from Pinterest (and any associated metrics you can think of) has decreased of late. Remember, engagement of signals is a good thing.
In previous years, we've done various nofollow link tests and there's no doubt they have a certain value beyond how you'd normally classify a link. Even if that could simply be checking your social footprint and whether it aligns with certain entity patterns.
"Andrew, what is an entity?" I hear you ask? Start thinking like a librarian. Librarians need to be able to classify things. So GLASGOW AIRPORT is a thing. You find it in maps and government directories. A brand or cool blog name is less *tangible* to start with. Make it so.
Directories get a bad rap in SEO due to years of abuse but actually, high quality directories like your local chamber of commerce do matter. Say you're a beauty blogger, could you partner with a local IRL business and then get a link from their site? Build your connections.
Google has invested billions in machine learning to classify every type of entity it can find. There is a book that explains the path Google has taken to reach this point called THE BEAUTY OF MATHEMATICS IN COMPUTER SCIENCE. How we as humans evolve our language use.
Most people doing #SEO have never read this book, don't understand how computers are being used to interpret human use of language, and are chasing things they have very little control over. It's not an easy read but it is, perspective changing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Beauty-Mathematics-Computer-Science/dp/1138049603
