“Never judge a book by its cover”
My Mister was ridden w controversies fr the start. People were quick to judge - The title, the female lead, the age gap..
As it turns out, My Mister was a masterpiece & #IU’s biggest breakthrough.

Lee Jian stole the show & my heart while at it..
From the very beginning, I was drawn in by Lee Jian. A character so jaded, so melancholic, that I could almost see no life in her eyes.
Yet, she’s admirably tenacious as she carried on living despite her circumstances, despite being sucked dry with all that’s thrown at her...

One of the most beautiful, most poignant relationship was one Jian had with Lee Bong-Ae, her grandma...
Jian would use every fibre of her being to protect her grandma..

Whilst all she ever wanted was happiness for her granddaughter.
It was a quiet, but very precious relationship.
It was love, that requires no words.

Then, we have what seems to be from 2 ends of the spectrum.
He’s got a career, a family & stable income. She’s on the brink of collapse, ridden with debt & no way out.
Yet beneath the facade, both struggle with life in their own way...
Both very different, yet very similar..

Two like-minded souls that saw through the masks that each puts on.
And because they know more, they are willing see less.
Each willing to protect the other without any questions, without any reservations.
Inadvertently, they saved each other, figuratively & literally..

“We are too quick to criticise, too slow to empathise. Too quick to judge, too slow to forgive.”
Her actions were never driven by ill intention, only by desperation...
This scene had me completely gutted..for it was the 1st time, someone understands her..

“She was judged to be innocent by the law. Does she need another trial here? The law was trying to protect her...so why go to such length to dig out one’s painful past?Isn’t it only humane to let others forget their painful past as much as we want to forget ours?”

As I delved further, it became clear that it was never a question “will they end up together?” but more of “how will they find solace in each other?”
This isn’t about romantic love between 2 person.
It’s about love between 2 humans, living with their own misery, and fears..

A character that I contemplated on. A character that’s hard to like for he tormented her for the longest time..Yet, he too had once protected her... & in the end, he too learned to let go...
Perhaps it’s really not so easy to draw a line between good & evil, black & white.

“Back then, he didn’t look so evil. He has a hard time for he remembers how he once used to like me. I have a hard time for I remember how kind he used to be..”

In the end, My Mister was an outstanding drama of life, friendship, forgiveness, sacrifices, redemption, selflessness and healing.
A beautiful story which puts into perspectives that success and failures in life may be more than what it seems...

That sometimes, the most unlikely people, the most unlikely relationship could help us heal, to find peace & happiness. That, in itself, is success.
It was truly satisfying to see she finally lived up to her name..
