This article and take are absolutely horrible. It’s understood that infection doesn’t always equal contagiousness. The experts in the field are trying to say we need to figure out a different/better test to infer levels of contagiousness. https://twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/status/1299705092178956288
This DOES NOT mean we need to make our test for infection less sensitive to make less people test positive. This is still an incredibly important metric to track and is (as of right now) the best way to isolate cases and stop potential spread.
qPCR is a very, very complex concept. It, unfortunately, cannot be boiled down into the simplistic ideas this author is using to support their take. It’s reckless to have someone so uninformed making dangerous claims with such clickbait-y titles.
This thread was the perfect response to the author’s poorly founded claims and poked all the correct, important holes in their argument. https://twitter.com/benmazer/status/1299734323109810179
