Hi, anthropologist here. I study people, living & dead, and I specialize in public education. Please think twice before you post or re-share photographs of dead people. Their bodies are not ours to use for attention, especially without family consent. At least don't lead with it.
I teach this to clients and students all the time: you can be conscientious about where/if you use images of human remains in your work without losing the impact. If you lead with violent images, you will likely cause harm to some readers before they can engage with your work.
I know it's easier for my work than for others' to NOT USE any images of remains unless I have consent from family/community, they are 100% necessary for my purpose, and that I state this in advance to the audience. It's never a 1st slide.
I think it's worthwhile to share that.
[For context this was sparked by some journalistic coverage which I consider invaluable in many other ways, but which raised my ethical hackles.]
