Quite a bit of reporting is badly confusing why the GNA suspended Bashagha and misreading the statement. No, he was *not* suspended for cracking down on protests. He was suspended for having been seen to *encourage* them.

Includes GNA officials basically saying Bashagha had gone rogue.
For Sarraj and supporters, the argument is Bashagha accepted to be a minister in the government and should support it rather than criticize. One suggested if he wants to act as an opposition leader, he should resign.
Importantly, Sarraj said protests were illegal and had no permits. Bashagha disputed that. He also refused to acknowledge arrests of protesters by Nawasis as legitimate and demanded their release.
So in effect whats meant to government's blunt instrument against protests--the minister of interior--is giving the government the middle finger while saying the protesters are justified.
By badly confusing, I mean *categorically misrepresenting*.
