I’ve spent the past 3 weeks writing a factum to try to stop your govt from taking away supports from a 22 year old Indigenous woman who grew up in care, was physically and sexually assaulted and exploited as a child, and is a single mom. Without them, she will return to sex work https://twitter.com/jkenney/status/1299811729979842560
Your government decided to place this remarkable, resilient young mother in a precarious, dangerous situation to save almost half of what you spend on the energy war room, or put another way, a drop in the bucket relative to your corporate tax cut https://twitter.com/pancholi_rakhi/status/1251287755922894849
I have young, vulnerable, marginalized youth in fragile situations who are on the brink of being pushed into a horrible place by your government that likely they or their children will find it difficult to escape. The cycle of poverty, apprehensions, abuse will continue.
All this to say that you seem to consider statutes — and who we should and should not recognize as a community — a more important thing to focus on than the most marginalized youth in our province having the ability to survive and thrive.
I just don’t understand your priorities. I don’t understand why you seem to be preoccupied with an agenda that punishes the most vulnerable, rewards the most privilege, and seem fixated on stuff that doesn’t matter.
This doesn’t come close to the type of leadership we need at this time. Who cares about statutes when your decisions and the policies of your government is placing vulnerable youth in harms way.
