Here's a thread on historical value of a place that is not given its due. There's so much history & importance that it baffles me how so little is written about it & we Indians know so little about its significance. I'm talking about KURUKSHETRA! Please read n/1
@jsaideepak
Brahma Sarovar - for those who don't know, this is where lord Brahma created the universe according to Sanathan Dharma. This is where life itself began. Do you now understand it's importance? Surprised to know that not too many people knew about this.
Thankfully the authorities have done a good job by keeping it clean and building ghats and other facilities. There's still a lot of scope. Hope its full potential is realised soon.
Jyotistar - the historical significance of this place is huge! This is where Lord Krishna had a conversation with Arjuna before the great war! This is where he convinced him to fight the Kauravas! THIS IS THE PLACE OF THE BHAGVAD GITA - 'Gitapadesha'.
Jyotisar (contd) - Unfortunate to see that it is in a small alley. With no real markings... So plain and unimpressive. When I was standing in front of the main entrance I had to actually ask someone - 'yeh Jyotisar kahan hai' (where is Jyotisar).
Sthaneshwar Maharaj Temple - Hidden away in another alley, right at the end... finding it - a task in itself. Now the crazy part - this is the place of the 1st ever Shiv Linga! FIRST EVER!!! This is where the Pandavas went to pray before the war.
This is where Krishna went to pray, this is where sages and maharishis have prayed. The temple structure itself was destroyed on over 20 occasions... the Lingam still stands! But how many people actually know this?
Shaktipeeth Devikoop Bhadrakali Temple - Again such an important part of Hindu culture & history. The ankle of Devi Sati is located here. For those who don't know about Shaktipeeths, please do a Google search and read about it. In doing so learn about Shiva's Tandav as well.
Shaktipeeth (contd) - Again, such an important place, thankfully better equipped than the Shiva Temple and Jyotisar.
I would urge everyone to go to Kurukshetra at some point and visit these significant places and soak in all the history.
You don't have to be religious, just enjoy India's rich heritage and take it all in. There is massive scope for tourism as well, hopefully the authorities will promote it and give it its due. New structures are coming up, but let's see how long it takes to complete them.
