Why is feminism so important for me today? A thread from w a lot of personal experiences.
(please read till the end)

tw// sexual assault, harassment, catcalling etc.
-I was 12 y/o assaulted by close family member. I didn't even realize till v late tf happened. Worst part? Now that I wanna talk about it, all I hear is"why you talking about it only now?","do you have proof?". Our first thought is literally victim blaming, how fucked up is that?
-I was 14 y/o when I was constantly harassed in school by teachers for things like the length of my skirt, the way I tucked my shirt in it bcs a shirt too loose is fancy& hence not allowed, for the way I carried my hair, for the the length of hair.
- To top it all, teachers literally used to check all the girls physically if they're wearing shorts or not, they even policed the color of the shorts. YES ACTUALLY PHYSICALLY FRISK OUR BODY and by our we mean all of middle school+high school girls.
-Despite all of this if anything happened w a girl in school the authorities simply blamed only the girl and her problematic behaviour, a girl from my school was sexually assaulted by her classmate and guess who was expelled? Hint: NOT the guy.
-Growing up, causal sexism never really left my way. Be it the sneaky "change your clothes bcs uncle is coming" or the "don't reply anything" to catcalling or the simple notion of girls by default having to take responsibility of home affairs. And I'm really fckn tired of this.
-As if all this isn't enough, random guys on the internet trying to police what kind of tweets/pictures I can post on my own fucking account to such a point where either I'll have to delete everything and go private or simply fear getting doxxed or worse, bid on by strangers.
-So no, Feminism is not sth I believe in to be cool or bcs of political ideologies. It's NOT A LEFTIST THING ffs. It's a movement I & many others resonate w bcs it focuses on the abolition of such patriarchal norms and getting womxn the respect and freedom they never really got.
@ all womxn out there who suffered sth similar, all my love+support for u, y'all are strong& I stan u. @ all guy moots: take a moment &ponder over all this& next time you try to bash feminism, stop. Think twice. Be a good ally &fckn try to understand us for once, just fckn once!
