I’m struggling with where speculation about the president’s gait / coordination crosses the line into ableism.

He is clearly declining and we have a right to object when we’re told not to believe our eyes.

But then the conversation morphs and I can’t identify exactly where.
It’s clear that “ha ha Donny Diapers” is ableist. Ditto for mocking him for walking slowly down a ramp.

But is it ableist to look at his functioning and question his capacity to do his job? Especially when the systems that we’d normally trust to monitor that are off the rails?
I don’t expect that there are easy answers to this, but I think it’s imperative we have a decent, honest conversation about it because we harm disabled people every time we f🤬ck this up.
