You know what concerns me? All of us worried with increasing certainty that Trump will win reelection are the same people who warned he would win in 2016. And the people insisting it absolutely will not happen are the same people who were shocked he won in the first place.
Even worse? The same people responsible for letting him win in 2016 (Democratic leadership, the DNC, liberals in general) are already blaming everyone else for their impending failure. Screaming and threatening people, not listening. Just like they did 4 years ago.
Both conventions were awful, but people saw what they wanted to see. If you hate Trump and you think Trump alone is the problem, the RNC was unbelievablly deranged. But in between all that insanity was some frighteningly effective propaganda. If you can& #39;t see that...¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If all you care about is "getting back to normal" then the DNC& #39;s performance of "Orange Man Bad" was just what the doctor ordered. But some of us saw a shocking wasted opportunity to speak directly to the pain people are experiencing right now. Unemployment. Eviction. Healthcare.
There are a lot of things different about this election from 2016. Hillary, whether you feel it is fairly or unfairly (for me, both) was deeply loathed and distrusted. Misogyny (unfairly) probably played as big a part as her politics (fairly). Joe is not burdened with the same.
Joe& #39;s politics are arguably worse than Hillary& #39;s, but he gets a pass from normie Dems bec. he& #39;s a dude. He isn& #39;t saddled with the visceral dislike people had about Hillary (again, fairly and unfairly). It& #39;s sad and exhausting. But it& #39;s probably also an advantage in this election.
The pandemic and the state of the economy are certainly new factors as well. 2020 is not an exact parallel for 2016. But I worry Dems are grossly overestimating the commitment people will have to show up and vote, or overcome the VBM voter suppression Trump is orchestrating.
It really seems like they think people will drag themselves to the polls to vote for Biden purely because he isn& #39;t Trump. But they aren& #39;t speaking to the pain people are experiencing. I don& #39;t think they see the extent to which people feel completely abandoned.
Look. I& #39;d love to be wrong. Dear God I want to be wrong. I have never in my life desired wrongness more acutely.
All I& #39;m saying is, I see a lot of the same patterns repeating themselves and I have the same feeling in the pit of my stomach that I had for most of 2016.

I mean...look at this shit. This only speaks to one audience: People who talk about how much they miss having a president who doesn& #39;t embarrass them. This is...fine. I guess. But it& #39;s meaningless. We have material problems and we need material solutions. https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1299791428621463552?s=19">https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/...
Everything I wrote above is based on the assumption Trump wins. But @jackcalifano hit on my true nightmare scenario. I& #39;ve said for 3+ yrs now that he will contest the results. Do you really think our institutions are up to the task of dealing with this? https://twitter.com/jackcalifano/status/1299950915428913152?s=19">https://twitter.com/jackcalif...
Democrats care more about protecting norms and civility than they do confronting a legitimate Constitutional and democratic crisis. If this is how it goes down we absolutely must not listen to their tepid pleas for calm. If this is where we are, they are not going to save us.
If Trump wins re-election because Biden loses the Rust Belt, the people we need to blame are the ones who are mad at @MMFlint for warning it could happen.
