For months the nation has been asking Portlanders “what’s happening in your city? Are you scared?” Tonight, as outsiders came, terrorized the streets, and killed someone is the first night I’ve felt unsafe here.

*note, I am far from the protests (except the ones at the police union, but still I stay away), but now outsiders are racing down streets, macing people, and shooting those who stand up to say that black lives matter is an uneasy one.

By the way, that uneasiness pales in comparison to the fear that black and brown people have every day in so many different venues — not the least of which being encounters with law enforcement.
