2. Both sides escalating the violence will absolutely serve the right.
3. YOU see Trumpies doing this. The biggest US cable network is hammering "chaos in Dem cities" 1000x a day while MSM says "both sides have good points."

4. Pumping up fear of crime, chaos, & disorder is a v.v. old & effective strategy for the right; it doesn't have to work on everyone, just a few nervous suburbanites in swing states.
It's not about what actually happens but how it's portrayed & to whom & what effect it has.

5. I don't pretend to know what to do. I'm personally on the side of nonviolence, which seems like the thing that's worked in the past, but I have no right or standing, from atop my mountain of privilege, to tell people subject to state violence how they should respond.

6. All I know, and was saying in the OP, is that violence, chaos, & disorder -- their presence in the information environment, their salience -- triggers parts of human psychology that do not well serve progressive values, causes, or candidates.
