lusamines character was handled terribly and heres WHY

lets talk abt her relationship w her kids, first off, gladion and lillie were cleary very hurt by her, enough for them to run away atleast. lillie asks the player for their opinion on her after they vist aether paradise and obivously shows discomfort when shes mentioned.

lillie and gladion are kids. 12 years old at most. they likely do not understand the extent of why what their mother did is so terrible, but they did understand it at some context. mostly because she went to extremes when it came to pkmn, and not the fact that they were abused.

lusamines defention of "love" is controlling and abusive. she simply thinks that a child who does not do things for the sake of the satisfaction of the parent is unworthy of love.

this makes it hard for lillie to make descions on her own and such, and having a hard time standing up for herself.

also, her manipulation of guzma is important too. she took advantage of him because he wanted to feel like he was worth something. while lillie spoke about talking to her mother about the error of her ways, after you defeat her in ultra space, i believe the 2 of them never speak

again. now im gonna talk about HOW they fucked up her character, thusforth making her irreedemable.

lusamine suffered with monomania regarding ultrabeasts due to the lost of her husband via a wormhole. lillie also talks about how lusamine was once a caring and loving person who loved her children.

is that an excuse for her actions? absolutely not. but its a cause. but at the end of the day, it didnt matter if she lost her husband, she only cared about the ultra beasts and it was blantaly obivous. when lillie confronts her, she doesnt care. she simply prefers to have her

own self image viewed in such a postive light; as some sort of savior rather than her own family.

lusamines chance to be redeemed was missed and thrown out the window, all because of the writing. while she did try to work on her relationship with her kids..that didnt erase the damage she did, and usum and the anime is the BIGGEST issue when it comes to her character here.

while usum isnt as bad as the anime, they were both equally terrible when it came to her character. her harmful actions are completely erased, and lillie is victim-blamed in the anime as they wrote her as a child who simply doesnt like reciving her mothers affection which is

wrong in 100s of ways. it erases the progress that lusamine made with her children, along with the fact that guzma is completely tossed to the side aswell.

gamefreak obivously wanted to make her seem likeable, but they did it in the worst way possible. its hard to reedeem abusers in the first place, as people most likely ( and rightfully ) wont like them from the start.

if you want to "reedeem" an abusive character, you cannot erase the progressive that they made with their victims forgiving them, and you cant completely toss one of the victims to the side. its very poor writing along with the victim blaming lillie was put through.

not to mention it just took away her appeal as a villian aswell, and i think its WORSE that she was trying to become some sort of saviour in USUM. i understand that its likely an alternative timeline but its still very relevant.

overall, if gamefreak geuinely wanted to make her seem redeemable, they shouldve handled her situation with lillie and gladion way better, and not have completely tossed guzmas experience w her to the side. and if anything, the USUM and anime verisons shouldnt exist.

also btw id like 2 mention im an abuse victim but yea gamefreaks attempt at redeeming her was very poor n just didnt work overall she sucks ass but god that writing was actual dog shit
