Today we introduce Natalie Mehra, another of our speakers. The title of her discussion will be "Privatization, Corruption, Power & Care: Taking the Lessons from COVID-19 to Build a Fight-Back That Cannot be Ignored"

In 3 1/2 months more than 2,000 people died from COVID-19 in Ontario's long term care (LTC) homes. Others died as a result of dehydration & malnutrition. At the same time, thousands of patients were moved out of hospitals to for-profit retirement homes, LTC homes and hotels.
Six large for-profit chains account for more than 1/2 of the deaths in the LTC sector. Yet no licenses have been revoked and for-profit long-term care has not been stopped. Nothing has been done to build public hospital capacity, improve staffing or improve care levels in LTC.
Natalie is on the front lines fighting to improve care, stop for-profit privatization & stop COVID-19. She reveals the measures that were & were not taken during the first wave, & warns that if we do not stop it, the government will lay the framework for a new round of austerity.
From her three decades of experience building movements for social justice and to protect public health care Natalie argues that we must recommit to a more ambitious militant fight-back, inspired by the tragic and horrific experience of the first wave of COVID-19.
