hi! so rsd (rejection sensitive dysphoria) threads have been going around twitter and as someone who has been recently diagnosed, here’s a thread of accurate information that i’ve used to better understand the dysphoria/my experience
rsd is basically where a person (who normally has adhd, but not always) has an extremely negative response to any sort/style of rejection. people with rsd have negative reactions to things like being excluded, criticism (constructive or regular), judgements etc.
rsd is commonly mistaken for depression/bipolar disorder because there is not a whole lot of in depth research on the topic. another thing to note is that rsd is not the same as social anxiety disorder, which is where someone avoids social interactions because of their anxiety
while the two do overlap, there are differences that i can talk about in another thread if needed. i really just wanted to use this thread as a way to talk about my own experiences with rsd
i get called overemotional a LOT, which actually makes my reactions worse because i try to suppress them in fear of being called names. i really advise you to not call people terms like “overemotional” or “dramatic” because most often times, they can’t control their responses.
another thing i’ve noticed, is that in response to any sort of rejection, whether it be an actual rejection or a short response ending a convo, i get i weird feeling in my stomach (like it’s dropping) and an overwhelming sense of guilt as if i’ve done something wrong
this is obviously not meant to call people out for doing things like this, because obviously not all things work and conversations end. i’m just stating this as a way to educate others on something so commonly misinterpreted
now, earlier on in the thread, i mentioned about rsd being linked with adhd. this is very common, so when i was diagnosed with rsd i was confused because i do not have adhd. so here’s a ss of an article that explains the factors that cause rsd
also, here’s the original thread:) https://twitter.com/mnsterhigh/status/1299350086745546752">https://twitter.com/mnsterhig...
