First of all, I want to apologize because I realized that I made kind of "huge mistake" with how I classified which book is magical realism and which one is not.

So, people already know that I am currently in love with One Hundred Years of Solitude. I even already said that magical realism is my new favorite genre.

it's true that OHYOS is magical realism, but I think that I am too careless to put every book that I myself consider has similar element with it as in appropriate enough to be part of magical realism.

Yesterday, one of my friend kindly enough inform me about how it can be tricky to consider something as magical realism without really understand well about the genre. Even if we understand, sometimes it can be quite confusing.

There are still so many people who doesn't understand this including me and I think it is common enough to make mistake like this (my friend said so as well). However, I personally don't think it's a good excuse after all. I need to own up my mistake and try to be better.

I learn that magical realism rooted from Latin people. Eventho there are still many debate around this, but I think it is inappropriate to use this when the author and the book themselves are not rooted from Latin.

When other Non-Latin author used or adopted this genre, it might end up more like cultural appropriation. I don't know about others, but I think this kind of action can sometimes cause hurt to particular people and community.

I can't say much more because it is not my place after all. I am not the one who has any rights to decide whether or not something can be considered as magical realism or not. I still need to learn more.

However, I think it is inappropriate (of me as well) to try to declare something as magical realism or not when I still need to learn more about it. I don't want to end up causing more cultural appropriation, especially when it will hurt particular community.

That is why once again I deeply apologize if I did some careless recommendation in the past. I will try to learn more in the future before I do some recommendations like this.

Please let me know if I have done something that can be considered careless and offensive like this in the future. Don't be afraid to end up offending me or what. You are not!
