One of the things that I couldn’t see in the Tune Report and which I KNOW was reiterated to govt over and over was the issue of NDIS using diagnostic medical tools on people who have multiple impairments. They use ‘primary diagnosis’ - huge issue.
#SayNoToNDISAssessors
2/ So I am mad, have adhd, am autistic and have a physical disability. We experience our impairments together and it’s impossible to separate them out. Yet I’m in the scheme as a person with muscular dystrophy. This is why this is a problem.
3/ Our impairments work together and against each other with cumulative effect. Example. I use a wheelchair so have a limited number of psychs I can access cos stairs. I need a private psych cos adhd meds. I need to travel far away to do this. Then there’s autism and trauma.
4/ Being mad means I can’t go near a place that I experienced trauma, often for many years. So I go to the one guy, not on public transport route. I go up a hill and get rhabdo. I haven’t gotten my smart drive fixed cos adhd and executive functioning. All interconnected.
5/ If we are told to go to an assessor it doesn’t matter what kind of so called specialist they are, they are not going to understand all my disabilities and how they impact on me. They are just not.
6/ Add into that regional and no transport - it’s a perfect storm that’s going to have casualties. You can’t stop a trial in the middle of a pandemic then say right it’s safe to start.

Just no.
