I am so, so ready to be a father already.
I feel like there's not enough acknowledgment in our popular culture that parenthood is something that men can want and yearn for and look forward to.
And of course, it's self-evidently true. And there plenty of representations of men being happy, even overjoyed, at becoming fathers.
But the sort of intense longing feeling associated with waiting for parenthood is very female-coded, and I don't think there's much recognition of how intense those feelings can be for men too.
I guess that's tied up with the ways emotional vulnerability and masculinity are seen as mutually exclusive.
I'm not sure I have anything profound to say about this. I'm just really looking forward to it, and feeling all the hope and fear that comes from a long-desired change just on the horizon.
