Some of the reasons I oppose an extension to the emergency powers.

The Government has known from the start that they only had 6 months to use the extraordinary powers. They had time to come up with specific required regulations or solutions which were compatible with a free society.

However, their authoritarian tendency has blinded them to any option other than the stick. They have become totally dependent on it, not even attempting voluntary compliance. They say "this is the only option", but of course it's not.

Japan was legally prevented from instituting lockdowns and things like mandatory mask wearing. They were forced to resort to education campaigns, advertising and sent everyone masks in the mail. There was little compulsion and fines were unthinkable.

Despite repeated questioning by me and others, the Government has not communicated the long term harm from their actions. Without modelling these harms, it is impossible to know if the Government actions are not, in fact, killing people overall. There is no excuse for this.

The legislation is meant to require the CHO to implement the measures that are least restrictive of rights. I don't think anyone thinks this has been happening.

Ministers have blindly supported the CHOs directions. I haven't seen any evidence that they've challenged these epic moral trade offs except for a few instances (remember the April fools day bonk ban backflip?). They have outsourced their morality.

Most striking example is schools. They were never and are still not closed to protect children. They were closed to stop overall activity. The Government has willingly sacrificed the well being of a generation of children. Where was the discussion around this dreadful act?

Of course, they are so confident of their abilities, they think they can alleviate these harms with "packages". Throwing money at the harms they have caused in some vain hope it will fix the problem. Of course, it won't.

In the case of our children, they will ultimately end up paying for these "packages" - possibly for the rest of their lives. Will they ever forgive us?

Alarmingly, anyone who questions the Governments actions is smeared as insane, a conspiracy theorist, an extremist, or morally reprehensible. Yet there is a wide spectrum of possible Government responses and discussing the various trade offs is totally rational.

Does anyone even understand the end game? The Government has repeatedly failed to communicate their overall strategy. The premier last week indicated possible emergency power use for another two years.
Really? No!
