Reminder that the point of a protest is not to persuade. Protests begin where persuasion has failed; the point of a protest is to force concessions by making the status quo untenable. It does that with means such as disrupting traffic, seizing spaces, and yes, looting.
Protests are not meant to gain anyone& #39;s approval. If they do, it& #39;s nice, but it& #39;s not the point. Protests are meant to say "This state of affairs is unlivable for me, and I will not allow it to be livable for you". Or, to put it in their own words:
"No justice, no peace"
"No justice, no peace"
Despite the impression many people seem to have taken from school, there& #39;s pretty good evidence that this is how historical protest movements worked: not by persuading, but by making anything else impossible. https://www.yesmagazine.org/opinion/2020/07/08/history-protests-social-change/?fbclid=IwAR3rwEIgdZH_NiJHNoTfm0X84Nl2wnVnxdJDn5kvB3J4uVLHEnJNA15aN4M">https://www.yesmagazine.org/opinion/2...
