I really don't care if you're a woman, queer, or if you grew up poor. If your politics are shit, your voice is worthless. Identity is not a bludgeon with which to silence opposition.

THREAD
Identity is meaningful in that it suggests you have direct experience with the oppression associated with your identity. Identity is useful in the context of fighting oppression. If you're not fighting oppression, your identity is meaningless.
For instance, transphobic trans people may very well have shared oppression with other trans people, however, they oppose trans liberation. Any well educated cis ally is far, far more valuable to trans liberation than Debbie Hayton ever could be.
When we talk about oppression, it is to describe reality. It is not to create a hierarchy. It is to say, "this is who I am, and these are the struggles I have personally experienced." We use oppression and identity to communicate how we experience reality.
In short, identity is not a gotcha card. Identity is completely worthless if it doesn't exist in the context of fighting oppression associated with said identity.
