i’m gonna rant about this because the way a lot of leftists on here have been talking about religion has genuinely been pissing me tf off; your association of christianity to whiteness is both wrong and damaging (thread)

so first, christianity is not an extension of whiteness. point blank period. first off, christianity ORIGINATED from the global south. africa has christianity long before europe. it is an essentially part of our history

christianity obviously spread to many parts of the world and became popularized in europe (AFTER IT WAS SPREAD IN AFRICA AND PARTS OF ASIA MIND YOU!!). once monarchs started to convert, that is when europe began trying to associate whiteness with christianity

white people began to associate christianity with being white. they began to claim that europe was the only place of true christianity and therefore, the only truly civilized people (when africa and asia been having christianity lol).

like why do y’all think there were suddenly so many white Jesus paintings?? so many white perceptions of christian figures?? the association of christianity to whiteness was made BY WHITE PEOPLE!!! it is an attempt to erase bipoc religious history and participation in religion

and also....the idea that christians are never oppressed is very much ignore the existence of christianity in the global south. WHITE CHTISTIANS aren’t oppressed, because they have the privilege of associating their religion with whiteness. christians in the global south-

who are being slaughtered for their faith?? ur gonna tell me they aren’t oppressed??? like come on now.

basically, christianity is not what y’all have an issue with, it’s whiteness. when you claim that christianity and whiteness are the same, you erase the history of christianity and faith in the global south for bipocs. don’t do that.

white europeans were able to use their association of whiteness with christianity as an excuse to conquer other lands (imperialism). they where able to claim that they were bringing the faith to these places (when many already had been practicing christianity)

this is true for history, but also now. when you look at mission trips by white churches now, where do they almost always go? africa and latin america. many of these places already have their own forms of christianity that they practice, but i’m gonna focus on africa for now

missionary trips to africa are common, yet africa was one of the first places to engage with christianity (judaism as well with beta israel in ethiopia). so why did white christians claim to be bringing “God” to these places when christianity was already there? imperialism

people associate whiteness with christianity not because white people were the first ones to engage with the religion and have the most impact, but because they have used christianity as an excuse for imperialism

when you claim that christianity is a white mans religion, and claim that christians aren’t oppressed, you validate that erasure of bipoc from christianity. you validate europes conquest of christianity in order to carry out imperialism against the global south. and u look dumb
