Thanks to a question @salhbdwi asked me some time ago on the notable similarities of the #Qajar flag and the flag of #Kurdistan, we're going to take a look at the #Persian color code [green - white - red] with the occasional [yellow]. I'll divide this thread in roughly 2 parts.
First, I'll talk about the colors and their symbols based on some of the main flags using them. Later, I'll further elaborate on current and historical users and some real-life examples of banners and flags used throughout history. As always, enjoy and share. #vexillology
The color code [red - green - white] with the occasional [yellow] plays a historical role in the visual representation of #Persian culture and lore, and is currently found in three distinct national flags associated with the Persian continuity: #Kurdistan, #Iran and #Tajikistan.
The color code of #Kurdistan's national flag is as follows:

Red (Pigment) (# EE1A1F - RGB: 238, 26, 31)
White (# FFFFFF - RGB: 255, 255, 255)
Sea Green (# 228F42 - RGB: 39,138,65)
Mikado Yellow (# FEBE0A - RGB: 254, 190, 10)
The color code of the Islamic Republic of #Iran is as follows:

Wageningen Green (# 239F40 - RGB: 35, 159, 64)
White (# FFFFFF - RGB: 255, 255, 255)
Rosso Corsa (# DA0000 - RGB: 218, 0, 0)
The color code of the Republic of #Tajikistan is as follows:

Boston University Red (# CC0000 - RGB: 204, 0, 0)
White (# FFFFFF - RGB: 255, 255, 255)
Pakistan Green (# 006600 - RGB: 0, 102, 0)
Golden Poppy (# F8C300 - RGB: 248, 195, 0)
The color green (Persian سبز or sabz) is intimately connected to Islam through the “spirit” of colors in Persian literature and traditional #Sufi imagery. Green is connected to life and vitality, a figurative reference to #Paradise and those who dwell therein (sabzpūš).
God says in the Qur'an: "Upon them will be green garments of fine silk (thiyāb sundus khuḍr) and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver" [Chapter al-Insān 21]

In #Shiism, the color green is also heavily associated with the Ahl al-Bayt, the Prophets kinsfolk.
The color white represents purity and piety, and played a major role in the priestly dresscode of the ancient religions of #Mandaeism and #Zoroastrianism, where it presented the divine light as opposed to the eternal darkness so typical for their dualistic worldview.
#Islam continued this legacy of the color white, and associated white with the pious and pure. God says about the Day of Judgement: "On the Day faces will turn white and faces will turn black." [Chapter Āl ʿImrān 106]

Think als of the iḥrām garment during ʿUmra or Ḥajj.
Contrary to white and green, red is a very powerful and violent color strongly associated with blood, martyrdom, war and sacrifice in #Shiism. This is applied mainly to the memory of al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī, a pivotal figure in the Shiite martyrdom cultus, during ʿĀshūrāʾ.
Red is on the other hand also a very energetic color associated with power in the Sufi tradition. It is connected with activity and strength but also with wrath, and a #Sufi who radiates power is called sorḵpūš (red-mantled).
Yellow, last but not least, is closely associated with the sun and with fire, a central element in several different ancient Persian religions and religious practices like Zoroastrianism, #Yazidism, #Yarsanism and #Nowruz .

The first version of the modern #Iranian tricolour was actually adopted in the wake of the Iranian Constitutional Revolution of 1906 during the last years of the #Qajar dynasty. The flag's design was fixed in article 5 of the Supplementary Fundamental Laws of October 7 1907.
It was not clear how these colors should appear, or in what order, so a different number of designs surfaced including these three colors and the šir-o xoršid ( https://menasymbolism.com/2019/08/03/the-lion-and-sun/)

The Kingdom of #Kurdistan (1922-1924) was a short-lived state proclaimed in the city of al-Sulaymāniyya following the collapse of the #Ottoman Empire. The state is associated mainly with shaykh Mehmûdê Berzencî, who revolted against the #British after the Treaty of Sèvres (1920).
The colors of the flag are a white crescent inside a red orb on a green background. Due to the #Islamic background of the state, the pre-Islamic color yellow has been omitted (similar to the Islamic Republic of #Iran's flag today).
The same color code is used today by Salahaddin El-Kurdi Hareketi, a #Sunni rebel group of mainly #Kurdish fighters formed in 2015 that takes part in the #Syrian Civil War. The group mostly operates in northwestern Syria and has a Rubʿ ḥizb as its emblem. https://menasymbolism.com/2019/12/31/the-rub-hizb/
