Here is an indication of what I do not know: do people actually make money by writing? I know there are people who write under the condition that they will some day be paid, but what's really going on there?

If anyone reading this thread is a writer then I have to apologize for stumbling into their territory without knowing the lay of the land. I'm sure there's tons of advice & tons of stories that could easily tell me what's what and who's who, but I can't see around my green horns

So far the hardest thing about writing to teach has been listening to readers. I feel like a doctor trying to diagnose myself while only knowing the gossip from the lady down the street.
