With news that the #Patriots plan to sign wide receiver Andre Baccellia, I watched a few games of his and I wanted to make a thread on him!
Baccellia, #5, can threaten deep so easily because of his speed. At his personal Pro Day, he ran a 4.28! He's able to get away from most DBs because of his blazing speed. He can stretch the field but he's not only a burner that goes deep.
He's also very dangerous on screens. Here Baccellia lets his blocks set up and he's able to break a tackle. You can see how fast he eats up yards. Every time he gets the ball, he's a home run threat.
Baccellia can finish tough catches too. Here he runs a curl and the QB delivers the ball late but Baccellia is able to complete this catch while taking a big hit from this DB.
Baccellia does a great job here going against zone coverage and finding a hole in it. He's able to sit down and help his QB out to get a huge 1st down.
Baccellia does a great job adjusting to this pass and he shows off his vision + he shows that he doesn't lose much speed when he makes cuts. He is a very fluid player.
Washington used Baccellia mainly in the quick passing game to try and get him to break away a big gain/pick up free yards. This is an example of how Baccellia can get free yards in an offense.
Washington has the WR to Baccellia's right run a slant to make sure that the DB on Baccellia can't break up this pass. The DB has to go over the slant and that creates a ton of space for Baccellia to bring in this pass. This can get you a free 5 yards and make the drive easier.
Washington runs a similar concept again on this play and Baccellia would have most likely gotten a 1st down on this play. The TE runs a vertical route right into the DB on Baccellia forcing the DB to go over the TE giving Baccellia a ton of separation.
Baccellia shows off his speed on this play too being able to run right past linebacker and safety. It's a nice chunk play but Baccellia might have been able to get more yards if the QB would have delivered a better ball.
This is another great example of Baccellia's vision and his playmaking ability. He's able to make #53 miss and hurdle his teammate while not losing any speed. With how well the #Patriots can block, Baccellia could get free for a long TD on a screen like this one.
This is the best example of Baccellia's home run ability. BYU sends 6 on a blitz and Baccellia runs a smooth slant. Baccellia can explode up the field just like he did here and make huge plays happen. Baccellia is very dangerous against blitzes because of his speed.
Baccellia probably doesn't make the final roster this year unless he wins the returning jobs but I could easily see him make the practice squad. His speed makes him a really interesting player and he can help speed up a #Patriots offense that was slow last year.
