A bit of fun, this: lots of deserved attention is being given to gymnasts who compete (or did until recently) as 'veterans'. Some are well known and others aren't, but they have all helped to challenge perceptions. Why don't we share and celebrate their stories below? I'll start:
SIMONA CASTRO (31)🇨🇱: First Chilean WAG to go to Olympics (2012). Qual. for 3rd successive OG last year. Multiple continental medals, inc. BB gold at SA Games '14. 2019 AA National Champ. Ambassador for ONU Mujeres, UN programme to develop self-confidence in women. Denver grad.
GÖKSU ÜÇTAŞ ŞANLI (30 TODAY!🥳🎂)🇹🇷: First-ever Turkish gymnast at Olympics (London). 2 Med Games medals & 3 Islamic Solidarity Games medals. Retired injured in '13 but returned 11 months after birth of daughter in '16 to win home World Cup gold in Mersin. Been to Worlds 5 times.
