This is the art piece I made in 2017. It served as my key visual to know and understand Suren's sorrow and pain, and try to convey it in my drawings. These colours however, still apply to her design. I simply enjoy slapping lots of colours in my art currently. :D
Suren is the main character of my book Jade Kingdoms, but I purposely didn't start the book with her. JK started by introducing Vandrake first. I wanted to give my reader an impression of visible strength first. Suren has invisible strength, but its there and its sturdy.
One of my favorite designs in Suren is her hair. I love long-haired characters, but it is for a personal reason. Growing up in a toxic environment caused me to lose much of my own hair, to the point it can never be recovered. Bald spots, thin strands...its the damage I carry.
I use Suren's hair to show her emotions, especially when you look at her curls. The more tense she is, the more curls appear. No matter the intensity of her emotion, Suren's hair glows when it passes its threshold. And what's more, she doesn't want it to be touched.
If she let's you touch her hair, you've earned her trust. Irene is one of the few characters that may touch Suren's hair. Maehara is the other. Irene loves brushing Suren's hair to soothe herself. Maehara loves touching Suren's hair to soothe the Princess.
She's not the typical heroine. Grieving, melancholic yet capable of things people do not give her credit for. She's the soft strength type, but soft strength can carry you far. Read Jade Kingdoms to join Suren's journey. https://tapas.io/series/Jade-Kingdoms
