I was just sent this thread. I, like a lot of others, read Sullivan's piece the way Klion did. But I do think it matters that Sullivan is offended by this interpretation. If my reading was what he truly meant, I doubt he'd be arguing he was misinterpreted. So I'll ...
... chalk this up to a misreading on my part. I do still think Sullivan is being needlessly alarmist about the unrest. And Ashford's other example, along with a couple others I've seen, aren't really open to interpretation.
