cloud computing feels just inherently bad.. we are completely rearchitecting software in a way that is useless for people who just want to run an application on a single computer. i keep feeling like i'm pointed against this strong current in the computer world and it's so tiring
scaling feels like a core problem with computing. the desire to build a single system that encompasses the entire world is inherently bad
the rise of cloud computing coincided with increased availability of computing and increased accessibility, so people outside the tech field are easily convinced that this has made development easier or better. but cloud's real goal was always to control flows of money and data.
something like a youtube is just *massively* technically inefficient compared to basically any alternative. decades ago we all through you'd need multicast, but keeping everything global+individualized+instant is the best money maker in the adtech world.
