Many of you know my husband is a retired Philly cop. He was injured in the line of duty trying to save a life. Next to the day I married him, the day he retired was one of my happiest. I hated the job. The fact I married a cop was a conundrum. When we met the first thing I 1/
Said to him was ‘leave me alone I despise cops’. But over a few months I got to know him and agreed to a date. We did that in the 80’s. And on that first date I reiterated ‘you’re not someone I could get serious with so this date is probably our first and last.’ But I agreed 2/
To another then another and after a year knew I loved him. Because I got to know his heart. And he was not a typical cop. To him the job was truly to serve and protect. And I loved that about him. He always went out of his way and still does to help people. I don’t know where /3
I’m going here, except to say there are decent people who were LEO’s and I am sure there are ones out there now but the thin blue line will not allow good ones to call out bad ones. Right now he hates what he sees pass as law enforcement. He agrees it all has to be torn down /4
And rebuilt. So much has to do with training. Every department trains their way. There needs to be national standards and uniformity and the recruitment needs to exclude white nationalists who now are the majority imo of LEOs. Call it defunding if you will /5
But what passes for law enforcement today is not working. It is abuse of power and enforcement of violence.
Trump will continue this militarization of law enforcement. One day it will be all of us with a knee on our necks.
