ELEVATOR PITCH: I hesitate to do a thread on this bc of a certain person getting SMASHED on. But fuck it...

I’ve seen bigger writers say a version of “You don’t need to know how to pitch right now. That’s for when you’re established.”

IMO. True, but also kinda not.

Examples👇🏾
Was at a lamp store with my ex. A female writer learned ex was CAA agent.

Asked for a read. Never said what the script was. WHY would an agent read that? They wouldn’t. Had the writer had her elevator pitch down my ex might have.

Lost opportunity. Might have gotten signed.👇🏾
Example 2: I’ve been at parties where industry folks have asked “What are you working on?” If I don’t have an elevator pitch ready imma blow any chance at a read.

Idk: I figure why not just be prepared for those times someone asks “what it is”. They’re rare but do happen.

-END-
Addendum: after hearing a crap ton of loglines my opinion is that they mostly don’t work and sound samey. Thus I don’t get why I should CARE.

A big producer once emphasized “Tell me the WHY this MUST be made TODAY.”

I merely use the structure he gave me. And it’s not a logline
One dude’s opinion. Ignore it if you disagree/doesn’t work for you.

Pretty obvious, yeah? 😂🤙🏾

Happy Saturday. 😘
