If R30k lobola leaves him that broke then he made a piss poor decision by getting married. He cannot afford marriage or to provide for a family. Part of lobola is to prove you are stable & capable enough to provide for the family you tryna start https://twitter.com/bobbie_tick/status/1299587192579334149
Judging by some of the noise being made here it seems some people didn’t know that part of lobola starts with a man showing his own family and uncles that he is ready to be a provider and he’s not sending them to come bring someone’s daughter into starvation
Before bo malome and the rest of the family ba dumela go romiwa ebe ba go tlatsa, you 1st prove to them bokgoni ba gago so that le bone ba itse ko ba berekelang teng ga ba negotiator on your behalf. If R30k e go kgama, kgetsi ya itlhalosa
The way batho ba bangwe ba ikarabelang masepa show ba goletse mo malapeng a family elders tse dijang sphatlho. Oh & magadi has nothing to do with GBV coz ga o laiwa it is made clear that you didn’t buy her/own her. She’s your responsibility not your property
As a cultural practice/custom, Lobola is a process not an event and it starts in your own family as a man when you inform them you want to get married. There’s a steps to be followed from there as part of the entire process until the bride is welcomed into your family
