When they tell you Africa was primitive before the Europeans, remind them of the Aksumite empire that traded with Persia and Greece, was regarded as one of the great empires alongside the Chinese & Roman & went on to become the first Christian empire on earth as far back as 30BC.
Tell them of Great Zimbabwe, bordered by the port of Rapta & how they built a kingdom from bricks and iron, traded with Portuguese circa 11-15th AD.
It’s ruins were so massive that the German who “discovered” it declared that natives lacked the sophistication to organize thusly.

Teach them of Kilwa Kisiwani that was built from underwater corals and then plastered over, far back at 9th century AD. The architecture was quite similar to that of contemporary Europe and Ibn Batuta who visited in the 14th Century described its mosque as a wonder of the world.
Teach them of the great Songhai Empire, Benin Empire (which had an embassy in Portugal and Oba Ewuare who exchanged letters with the King of Portugal), and Mansa Musa of Mali who built some of the biggest African libraries and universities in the 1300s.
Don’t be quiet, tell them of how African empires minted their own money & organized their economies & civilization uniquely. Remind them that Africans were building great pyramids when Europe wasn’t even a thing (Egypt and Sudan; whose pyramids are 2000 years older than Egypt’s).
Most of these pyramids were blown apart by an Italian Explorer (Giuseppe Ferlini) looking for gold, by the way.

For the life of me, I don’t know why this doesn’t form a large part of African education. Why aren’t kids taught of how great their progenitors were before the white men came to tell us we are nothing?
Why do names like Livingston & Mungo Park still make it to our history books

Why are we being told that Africa was subservient to European Armies?
What happened to the great battle of Adwa which king Menelik of Ethiopia routed the Italians in 1896, The Gun war of 1880 which the Sotho people thrashed the European settlers? @Zintle_Mkwela

What of the battle of Isandlwana, battle of Annual in Morocco in 1924, battle of Nsamankow in 1824, which resulted in Ashanti (Ghana) victory over the English and Battle of Woyowayanko, 1882 in which the outnumbered Wassoulou Empire beat the French?
