Boseman's death is sad because he brought joy to many. He has friends and family who will mourn him.

Consumers of cinema develop such intense relationships with the product
I mean, it'd be psychopathic if I reacted to the death of my postie with "so, where's my mail?". But sooner or later, the question will arise.

Also, I have an IRL relationship with my postie. I've never met Boseman. He's as real to me as anyone else who has worked on his films.
I guess what I'm saying is, I've never been able to relate to public mourning of celebrities. When I was in high school, a girl entered class sobbing that it was the worst day of her life because River Phoenix died. I remember feeling puzzled then, as I am now.
