My @educationgovuk Manifesto for Change:

1) Stop treating us like idiots. We are professionals and deserve the respect as such.
2) Don’t take us for granted. We’ll make it work, because we want the best - but that doesn’t mean you can do everything at the last minute and expect us to just roll with it.
3) Do It once and do it right. Spend more time getting it right and still produce documents in good time that we know will stand the test of time and we can rely on.
4) Let us work in a way that puts children first rather than high stakes one off testing and inspection procedures.
5) Be honest. Give us some transparency and integrity. You want us to model good leadership - show some humility too.
6) Be public about who you consult on policy matters. If you’ve taken advice from HTs and others - give them a voice.
7) Be accountable to the same standards we are - and the same consequences.
8) Support the profession. Too often it feels like education works in spite of the DfE, not because of it. Challenge, yes, but also listen, defend and enable.
9) Commit to having an number of advisors working at a high level in the department with direct teaching or school leadership experience, from a range of school backgrounds.
10) Stop using the press to announce policy.
